You vote. I read.

May 5, 2011 By Ying 11 Comments

My feelings about democracy are somewhat mixed in these post-election days, but I want to play a little game with you. I have time to read one more fat, juicy, delectable book (I think! I hope!) before having a baby and descending into that inevitable haze. So what should it be, friends?

Option 1: Hilary Mantel’s A Place of Greater Safety.

I’ve had this on my TBR pile for ages. Colleen at Bookphilia raved about Wolf Hall. The French Revolution is one of the most compelling historical backgrounds I can think of. And I like and admire all the Mantel excerpts I’ve ever read.

But then recently, N surprised me with Option 2: Judith Flanders’s The Invention of Murder.

I didn’t know it was coming out. I ADORE Flanders, and suspect you already know how I feel about Victorians, crime, and detection. How can I possibly resist?

What should I do, and what should I read? I am yours to influence.

Excuse me If misunderstood, but you’re pregnant? In this case, my congratulations to you and your family!
I love the historical period of the French Revolution, so I vote option number 1 (‘though I haven’t read the book.)
p.s. thanks again for the kinds words about the video. You know, trailers are my way to pay a little tribute to my favorite books. And I love your book XD
p.p.s. thanks for the suggestion about “Kat, incorrigible”, I love it! Now I’ll have to make a trailer for it too. XD

As a huge fan of yours, I am of course leaning toward The invention of Murder. Plus, I would love to read it, but it is not avail in US yet. So I am hoping for your review…
PS… Kat, incorrigible, which is coming via inter-library loan.

Love Mantle, but I hear mixed things about that novel so I’m going for ‘The Invention of Murder’. Pleas oblige me and make a mwahaha evil laugh sound when first cracking the book 😉

I vote for “The Invention of Murder” it does sound interesting. So, you are have somewhat mixed feeling about democracy post Canadian election. It sounds like you are not to crazy about the outcome. I read that Harper’s “team” the conservatives won.

And Jodie, I did my best evil loff when cracking the book, just for you. And thank you for the pregnancy congrats, Enrico and Kimberley! We’re so excited (but I hope she hangs on until I’ve finished this book).
